Various thoughts that come to mind when eating pomegranates

My roommate sent me a box of pomegranates, and gave me a relatively large one. I put it next to my computer for a few days and only remembered it yesterday afternoon. It happened to be free, so I ate this pomegranate. Maybe it's been a long time since I ate this thing, or maybe I have a special memory of it. While eating, I thought of a lot of things.

Actually, I don't really like to eat this kind of troublesome fruit. First, you have to peel it and pick out the pomegranate seeds one by one. If you're not careful, the juice can easily splash onto your clothes. The pomegranate seeds are also small, and it's not interesting to eat one or two at a time. I like to stuff a handful directly into my mouth. As for whether to eat the pomegranate seeds or the juice inside, I don't think it's important. I don't want to bother spitting out the seeds when eating a pomegranate, so I just eat it directly. I used to see pre-peeled pomegranates in the fruit supermarket, with a small plate filled with many pomegranate seeds. But a plate is relatively expensive, so it's better to buy the whole thing.

When I was in the third grade of elementary school, I wrote my first composition. The title at that time was "An Unforgettable Thing". Although it has been ten years since then, and I can't find that composition anymore, I still remember the things that happened at that time quite clearly. I wrote about pomegranates for the first time in that composition, and the main content of the composition was "picking pomegranates". I'm not bragging, but at that time, everyone in the class was writing a composition for the first time. After we finished writing, we handed it to the teacher for correction. The compositions of other students were returned to them by the teacher, but my composition was read aloud by the teacher in class. It may not have been written very well, but at least it was one of the better ones in the class. When I received it, I saw many red circles inside, and I was a little happy.

The thing about picking pomegranates did happen. I wrote about picking pomegranates at my grandmother's house. It was the first time for all of us to write, who would know how to use fancy words and beautiful sentences? I narrated the whole story from beginning to end, and wrote down the details that happened. At that time, as long as the sentences were smooth, it was good enough. It didn't matter whether the sentences and words were beautiful or not. I have always felt that when writing narrative essays, you must write about things you have experienced, write down the things you have experienced in a complete way, and then add the details. It is very easy to express your emotions because you have experienced it and have feelings. All you need to do is record what happened at that time and your feelings at that time. This is much easier than fabricating a story and imagining various plots and emotions.

From elementary school to junior high school, I wrote the most narrative essays, from "An Unforgettable Thing" to "An Unforgettable Person". To be honest, among so many narrative essays, there were more lies than truths. Most of the ones that are still remembered in my mind now are the ones that actually happened, such as the aforementioned "Picking Pomegranates", and "Learning to Ride a Bicycle". Actually, there are not so many things to write about. Everyone's childhood is different, and the childhood of teachers is different from ours. Every time I see a composition topic, the first thing I think about is whether I have done something similar. If I have, then it's easy to write; if not, then it's a headache, and I have to make it up. I don't know if elementary school students and junior high school students still need to continue writing "Unforgettable XXX" type of compositions, and I don't know what interesting things they will write.

In addition to not liking to make up compositions, there is one more thing I don't like, which is overly fancy language. Excessive use of flowery language often obscures the true beauty of the article and covers up the most genuine emotions that the article wants to express. I really like reading "My Mother" written by Hu Shi. This is an autobiographical prose, which also describes many things about his mother, including her education and care for him, and the process of his mother getting along with the family. He portrayed the image of his mother on paper in a plain language, and from this plain language, one can see Hu Shi's nostalgia for his mother.

Okay, I finished eating the pomegranate, and I finished talking.
