Hello, Threads!

Introduction#

Last month, I heard the news that Zuckerberg is preparing to launch a new social app called Threads, claiming that it has "good operation" and is an excellent alternative to the "chaotic" Twitter.

Threads official website: https://www.threads.net

Originally planned to be launched in mid-July, but due to Musk's recent restrictions on Twitter traffic, Threads was launched today. I reserved the download on the App Store last night, and it was already installed when I woke up this morning.

Currently, you can only log in through Instagram, and you can also import your personal profile information from Instagram with one click, including the friends you follow. If they also log in to Threads, they will be automatically followed on Threads.

You can check how many people have joined Threads through Instagram, and you can also view the exclusive "nameplate". However, I don't quite understand why you can't directly view it on Threads.

I should be relatively early, the 415,768th user to join Threads.

In the morning, I saw a group of people eagerly sharing their Threads account addresses and nameplates on Twitter, and they all went to Threads to post their first messages, most of which were "Hello world".

The last time there was such a large-scale influx into another social platform seems to be when Clubhouse was born. I was quite eager at the time, but it was only released on iOS, and Android was slow to arrive, so I didn't join. Clubhouse was popular for a while, but now it seems to have disappeared. I wonder if Threads can continue.

User Experience#

Based on my current user experience, I think it has the potential to compete with Twitter.

Since there is no official Chinese translation yet, I will temporarily translate Threads as "线报" (news report). Publishing content on Threads will be referred to as "发线报" (post news report).

The most prominent feature is that it is like Twitter, but it has its own characteristics (or bugs). The homepage is a constantly recommended feed, and posting news reports has options for likes, comments, retweets, or quotes. The logic and usage are basically the same as Twitter, but what I'm not used to is that the like button on Threads is on the left, while on Twitter, the left icon is for comments, which makes it easy to click the wrong button.

In terms of content moderation, I estimate that it should be similar to Instagram, and you won't see NSFW content. Compared to Twitter, it will be a bit cleaner. Currently, there are no ads, but they may be added to the feed later, which I can accept.

When posting news reports, you can attach up to 10 images, and the character limit is 500 words, which is more generous than Twitter. The editing box is relatively simple, you can only enter text and add images, there are no options for emojis, polls, scheduled sending, and other features on Twitter.

Overall, Threads is relatively clean.

Of course, there are also some points that are unacceptable.

For example, you can't change your nickname, you can only do it on Instagram and then sync it to Threads. The four buttons below the news report are too small and crowded together. Can't they be separated a bit and centered? In addition, there is currently no web version, you can only use it on your phone. The feed is a bit messy, with random recommendations, and there is no "following" feature like on Twitter...

I also found a small feature, there is a line on the left side of the image below, with a knot at the end, truly representing Threads.
